Drainage Ditch Services

Rice SWCD serves as the Ditch Inspector for Rice County. The role of the ditch inspector is to field questions about public drainage ditches. The most common request is ditch cleanouts, which is generally a maintainence issue. The ditch inspector reviews ditches to determine what work is needed, and coordinates the work with the ditch group and the contractors. In recent years, annual spraying of most county ditches has been done to control trees on the ditch banks. While efforts are made to notify landowners when the spraying will occur, it is not possible to contact everyone or to know exactly when the ditches will be sprayed.

DITCH RECORDS

The Rice County Auditor/Treasurers office maintains files and maps on all county ditch systems. This information is open to the public for review.

DITCH ASSESSMENTS

Each drainage ditch has its own account where money generated from the ditch group is held until it is needed. When a large project is proposed, the ditch group owners will be notified of the work needed through a public hearing process.

If you have a drainage need related to the county ditch system, please call us at 507-332-5408.
