RICE SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT
Shoreland
Rice County has sixty-five lakes, eight of which are considered large lakes. There are also many rivers, streams, and creeks including two large rivers, the Cannon and the Straight rivers. This means that there are many shoreline miles in Rice County.
Some best practices for shoreland include the use of native vegetation that will filter surface runoff, as well as the movement of groundwater that flows into lakes. Check out our Urban page for more ideas.
If you have a severe erosion problem, please contact us for a site visit. We can help you find the resources to repair your shoreland. Before starting any shoreland project, be sure to check with Rice County to make sure you have the necessary permits.
